Each Saturday, Little Flower is transformed into a dancing studio. Through the efforts of the Little Flower Ladies Club and dance instructor, Marilyn Schunzel (Miss Marilyn, to all her students), we have maintained a wonderful community-building tradition for many years.

The Little Flower Dancing School offers fun and motivating classes in tumbling, tap and ballet. All ages are welcome, ranging from Pre-K to 7th grade and up. And you don't have to be enrolled in Little Flower to join.

The dance season runs from September until May, where all the students' talents are showcased in a fantastic recital.

LITTLE FLOWER DANCING SCHOOL

APRIL/MAY NEWSLETTER

PLEASE SAVE – LOTS OF IMPORTANT INFORMATION!!!

CLASS: Don’t forget, there will be no classes on Saturday, April 24th due to the Little Flower Parish Picnic. Our last Saturday classes are April 17th, May 1st, May 8th, May 15th, and May 22nd.

PAYMENTS: All classes need to be paid in full before tickets for the recital can be purchased. Please check to see what your balance is before making your last payment as some families have over or under paid in various months.

COSTUMES: Costumes will be handed out on Saturday, May 1st after each class. Please read the instructions included inside each costume bag carefully. Try on the costumes and make any necessary adjustments before the night of dress rehearsal. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, PUT YOUR CHILD’S NAME ON EVERY PIECE OF THE COSTUME, INCLUDING HAIR PIECES, BELTS, SOCKS, SHOES, ETC. If your dancer is in more than one dance number, it will be noted on the instructions as to which one is first so that they come dressed in that costume to both the dress rehearsal and recital.

VOLUNTEERS: We need many volunteers to help with the rehearsal and recital. If you sign up, you will need to be available for both the rehearsal and recital. We will have sign-up sheets posted on April 17th. One of the benefits of having two recitals is that if you can volunteer to help during one of the performances, you will be able to sit and enjoy the other performance. So please indicate which performance you want to work. Volunteers will not need to purchase a ticket for the performance they attend.

TICKETS: Recital tickets will go on sale Saturday, May 8th. The price per ticket will remain the same as last year at $6 per ticket, and they are non-refundable. Please make sure you indicate which show you are purchasing tickets for. We will continue to sell tickets up through Saturday, May 22nd. We will NOT sell tickets at the door the day of the recital.

REHEARSAL: Rehearsal will take place at St. Louis University High School Theatre on Tuesday May 18th. We will start at 6:00 pm sharp so please arrive at least 10 - 15 minutes early. This is a DRESS rehearsal and is MANDATORY for all dancers. Please come in your first costume as noted on your costume instruction sheets. Only those volunteering will be able to stay for rehearsal, NO exceptions. We will check dancers in and they will be escorted to sit with their class. PreK-K (11:45am class and 1:15pm Acro class only) will be finished at 8:30 pm. K-1st (12:30pm class) will be finished at 9:00 pm, Grades 2 & 3 (2:00pm class) will be finished at 9:15pm and 4th and older will be finished at 10:00 pm.

VIDEO’S: Video’s or DVD’s can be ordered again this year. Order forms will be available May 1th through May 22nd.

Shoe Swap: We will have a shoe swap on May 8th and May 15th for anyone interested in exchanging their shoes for a larger size.

RECITAL:

- PLEASE READ CAREFULLY –

We will perform TWO recitals again this year as mentioned in an earlier newsletter. Both will be on Sunday May 23rd at St. Louis University High School Theatre. The first performance will begin at 2:00 pm and the second performance will begin at 5:00 pm. All dancers will be performing in both recitals. For the safety of your children, the dancers will NOT be permitted to leave the backstage area between performances, and no one but the volunteers and dancers will be permitted backstage at any time. This caused some confusion in the past, so please make family and friends aware that they will not be able to see, hug, and give flowers, etc. to any dancers after the first performance.

The last performance will end at approximately 7:00 pm. Dancers in 4th grade and up will be released on their own from the backstage door as soon as they are ready. Dancers in PreK through 3rd will be released to a parent only, from the stage after they have gone backstage to pick up their belongings. This is somewhat of an ‘organized chaotic’ process, so please be patient with us.

Dancers will need to arrive between 1:15 and 1:30pm on the day of the recital. We will provide drinks and snacks between performances, please make us aware of any allergies or medical issues surrounding food or drink related to your child. You may send a snack with your dancer, but please do not send drinks. For younger dancers, send a button down shirt they can wear over their costumes while they have their snacks.

During the recital, the younger dancers will be kept busy with coloring books, Disney movies, etc. You may send books or other items with your child, but we will not be responsible for them.

If you have ANY questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact us. We thank you for your cooperation and patience!
