Congratulations 7th Grade Girl’s Basketball Team!!

Congratulations to the Little Flower 7th grade girl’s basketball team.  The girls recently participated in the 35th annual St. Mary Magdalen Double Sevens Tournament.  The team did not win 1st or 2nd place, but the girls accomplished something even better than that!  They won the Reverend Robert J. Mihelyi Sportsmanship Award.  These girls represented Little Flower School and their families in a very positive way, and were rewarded for it, congratulations girls!

Open House Dates

The originally scheduled open house from 9:00-10:00 on Wednesday February 3 has been cancelled.  Our Open Houses will run from 11:30-1:00 on Sunday January 31 and from 5:30-6:30 on Wednesday February 3.  On Sunday January 31 please join us at 10:30 Mass for our monthly children’s liturgy.  Following Mass you are invited to join us for breakfast offered by the Men’s Club and for our Open House.

Book Fair Coming Soon!

The annual Little Flower book Fair is coming soon.  Please pay attention for updates and information as we approach Catholic School’s Week and our Book Fair.

Charities For January And February

For the month of January our Charity of the Month will be the Chromosome 9p- Network.  For February the charity will be the Maggie Welby Foundation (see paragraph about Maggie Welby). The Chromosome 9p- Network is an international not-for-profit organization dedicated to educating and bringing together families with children who have 9p- or Alfi's Syndrome. Children born with 9p- are known to have mental, physical and developmental disabilities in varying degrees, from mild to severe. Currently, there are approximately 250 families worldwide with 9p- children. Because of the minute number of children inflicted with 9p-, the Network has become a valuable source for families to share information and to help further research in this extremely rare chromosome anomaly.

Shoe Drive, Get Rid Of Those Old Smelly Shoes

Want to help needy people around the world?  Want to make your house smell better and become more organized?  We have a way for you to do both.  Starting during Catholic School’s Week and throughout the month of February Little Flower School and Parish will be collecting old shoes.  The shoes are recycled at $0.35 a pound.  This money is taken by Pastor George Hutchings to help the poor and needy around the world.  For more information go to www.shoeman.org

Know Of A Little Flower Graduate Doing Great Things?

If you know a Little Flower graduate who does great things, please tell us about them.  Pay attention in the upcoming weeks, as a feature will be added to the website that will allow you to nominate Little Flower graduates worthy of special recognition.

ITBS Comparison Results Are In
I want to inform everyone of some wonderful news. The Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) comparisons for all Catholic schools in the St. Louis Archdiocese are in and Little Flower performed exceptionally well. I will list the results for the Archdiocesan average and our Little Flower averages. These numbers represent a composite national percentile average. For example, if a class scores in the 70th percentile, that class scored better than 69% of all those that completed the testing. Here are the results for Little Flower:

2nd Grade Archdiocese Average 65%ile
LF 2nd Grade 69%ile
3rd Grade Archdiocese Average 77%ile
LF 3rd Grade 83%ile
4th Grade Archdiocese Average 77%ile
LF 4th Grade 82%ile
5th Grade Archdiocese Average 76%ile
LF 5th Grade 76%ile
6th Grade Archdiocese Average 73%ile
LF 6th Grade 87%ile
7th Grade Archdiocese Average 78%ile
LF 7th Grade 86%ile
8th Grade Archdiocese Average 78%ile
LF 8th Grade 93%ile

As you can see all of our classes met or exceeded the average of the St. Louis Archdiocese. We are all very proud of our school, students, programs, and teachers!

Magazine Drive

Last week you received a flyer about an upcoming fundraiser.  We will be having a "Magazine Drive" in February.  The students will have opportunities to earn many different prizes including a limo ride, cash, lunch with the Principal, and many others.  The best technique for this drive to be successful is for the students to ask the buyers to "renew" any magazines they already receive.  They are more likely to make sales by using that approach.  The students can start earning credit for the drive now and you can give Christmas gifts as well as supporting our school.  The school receives 40% of every item sold.  You can do this by:

1) going to www.qsp.com

2) use the school code 425-090443

3) follow the instructions to place the order

If you have any questions please don't hesitate to contact me.
