Little Flower Newsletter 10-3-11

Tuition Incentives Available

Beginning this year, we will offer a $500 tuition reduction incentive for any Little Flower family that is able to recruit a new family to our school. The children of the new family must be in grades K-8 and the family cannot be existing members of Little Flower Parish.   For more information please contact Mr. Baird or refer to the informational letter in this week’s Tuesday folder.   Once you have successfully recruited a new family, please contact Mr. Baird or Mrs. Barb Schlanger to receive credit.

Changes To Calendar Regarding All Saints’ Day (Holy Day of Obligation)

On Tuesday Nov. 1 (All Saints’ Day) we will begin the school day with a “late start” at 9:30 a.m. Following the delayed start we will have mass at 10:00 a.m. We realize that this delayed start may be an inconvenience for some families. To accommodate the families presented with an inconvenience, we will allow students to be dropped off at the normal morning time. The students will be supervised by the teachers until the day officially starts at 9:30 a.m.

Locally Grown Pumpkins Available To Help Support Little Flower

Do you buy a pumpkin or two or gourds every year to celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving? Please consider purchasing your pumpkins and gourds from our local grower. Mr. Joe Boston will be selling locally grown pumpkins on Friday Oct. 14 on the parking lot after school, all day on Sat. Oct. 15, and after all of the weekend masses on Oct. 15 & 16 (parking lot). The parish/school will receive 50% of each item sold. Large pumpkins (larger than a basketball) will sell for $8. Smaller pumpkins will sell for $4. Gourds will be available for $1 each or three for $2.

Innisbrook Concludes

Thank you to all of you that participated in our annual Innisbrook Gift Wrap Drive. The proceeds from the drive are down slightly from previous years, but the fundraiser was able to successfully raise slightly more than $7,000. We would like to recognize and congratulate the top 3 sellers in the school; 1s Place – Alison Glore, 2nd Place – Sophia Gotto, 3rd Place – Mario Ballard.

Thank You To School Committee

I would like to publicly say thank you to the School Committee, led by Amy Shumate, for all of the work they do to assist the faculty and staff. Thank you to everyone that has contributed with the group!!

School Calendar

Recently there have been discussions regarding the school calendar and the number of days off that we have in comparison with neighboring Catholic schools. The Catholic Education Office recommends 20 days off throughout the school year. In our calendar we have taken the recommended 20 days as we have the last three years. You will find other schools have near the same number.

Picture Re-Takes In October

If your child is need of a retake of their school picture, the retake day is scheduled for Friday Oct. 21.

Little Flower Alumni/Good News

Do you know of a Little Flower alumnus doing good things (i.e. graduating H.S. or college, excelling in fine arts, music, athletics, professional life, etc.)? If so, please let us know so that we may celebrate the successes of the current and former members of our community.

First “Coffee Chat” Held!!

Recently, I held the first of many informal conversations between myself and parents. There were a few parents present and many topics were discussed. If possible, I would encourage all of you to join us at future dates. The next date will be Wednesday Oct. 19 at 9:00 a.m., following the school Mass.

Lice Prevention Products Available

Julie patten, ( better known as Kaitlyn’s mom), will be distributing Organic lice and more importantly lice prevention products this year. The manufacturer is Fairy Tales which is a sulfate, parabin, and sodium free product featuring essential oils of lavender, tea tree, Rosemary, and citronella. The ingredients are safe for everyday use. Average studies show with use of product prevention is 71%-92%. Products layered are almost 100% for a full 24 hours. Treating hoods and helmets are equally important. For more facts, visit www.fairytaleshaircare.com or www.licepreventionnews.com or contact Julie Patten.

Do You Use Trash Bags?

For most of us we use trash bags in many ways. Little Flower now has bags available to support our school & parish. The bags are high quality plastic and available in two sizes. The bags are available in 15 and 39 gallon sizes. The 15 gallon bags come in rolls of 65 and the 39 gallon bags are available in 25 count rolls. Each roll sells for $10 and 35% of each sale is returned to the parish/school. The bags are available daily in the school office or are also available after the 10:30 a.m. children’s liturgy masses held once a month.

Help Little Flower defray administrative costs, purchases of books and other expenses by supporting the use of gift cards. Make Land’s End purchases count by using Land’s End Gift Cards. You receive full value of the gift card and Little Flower receives 16% at no additional cost to you! Also remember when placing orders through Land’s end to use Little Flower School Code #900116716 and you will automatically contribute up to 3% of your purchases. Walmart and Target gift cards are also useful for everyday purchases. Gift cards make great gifts as well! Gift cards from various stores are available for immediate purchase every Sunday after Mass. Order forms for other stores are available in the church rectory, on Fast Direct and the school office. Go to www.glscrip.com for a full list of contributing stores. (Please allow up to 2 weeks for delivery of cards that must be ordered).

Prayer Kits Available!

Some of you may recall from last year, we have prayer kits available for use in your home. The kit is designed to encourage families to place an emphasis on prayer and to take the time to pray as a family. If you would like to request the kit, please send Mr. Baird a Fast Direct message.

Thought For The Week

"Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are endless." {Mother Theresa}
October Charity (Maggie Welby Foundation)

Our “charity of the month” for October will be the Maggie Welby Foundation. The foundation was established and inspired by the life and memory of Maggie Welby. The Maggie Welby Foundation seeks to aid students (grades K-12) and families in financial need, in order to help fulfill the dreams and hopes that Maggie realized in every person she touched during her life.
